This guide explains how to connect your Engage Pro Elite to a Bluetooth speaker.
Bluetooth is the default audio mode.
When powered on:
- The device will attempt to reconnect to the last paired speaker
- If successful, boot audio will play automatically after 5–10 seconds of connecting to the speaker
- Blue LED will illuminate to reflect Bluetooth is connected
⚠️ On first use, you will need to pair a speaker.
A video demonstration can be seen here -> Connecting to Speakers
The Engage Pro Elite uses Bluetooth A2DP audio for wireless sound playback.
Most modern Bluetooth speakers support A2DP and will work correctly with the device.
A2DP stands for:
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile
This is the standard Bluetooth profile used for:
- Music playback
- Wireless speaker audio
- Stereo sound streaming
The Engage Pro Elite requires the speaker to support A2DP audio reception.
Most of the following device types are compatible:
- Portable Bluetooth speakers
- Bluetooth amplifiers
- Soundbars
- Bluetooth-enabled PA systems
Examples:
- JBL speakers
- Sony Bluetooth speakers
- Bose Bluetooth speakers
- Ultimate Ears speakers
Not all Bluetooth devices are compatible.
The following device types may NOT work correctly:
- Microphones
- Headsets designed only for calls
- Bluetooth transmitters
- Smart assistants without standard A2DP support
- Very old Bluetooth devices
⚠️ The Engage Pro Elite is designed to connect to Bluetooth audio receivers (speakers), not Bluetooth transmitters.
Check the following:
Review the speaker specifications or manual and confirm it supports:
A2DP
Some devices support only:
- phone calls
- voice assistant audio
- proprietary connection modes
These may not connect correctly.
The speaker must be actively searching for a new Bluetooth connection.
Refer to your speaker manual for pairing instructions.
Many speakers automatically reconnect to:
- phones
- tablets
- computers
Disconnect or disable Bluetooth on nearby devices before pairing.
Keep the speaker close to the Engage Pro Elite during pairing.
Avoid:
- metal obstructions
- crowded wireless environments
- excessive distance
You can enter pairing mode one of two ways:
- Put your speaker into pairing mode
- Power on the device
- A – Either press and hold Button 1 on the main unit
- B – Hold Button 1 + Button 2, while holding, press Button 5 on the palm unit
- Release all buttons
- The Blue LED will blink to confirm the unit is in pairing mode
The device will:
- Clear any previous pairing data
- Enter pairing mode
- Begin scanning for nearby speakers
- Onboard Blue LED will begin flashing (this can be observed through the pin hole on top of the case) to show the device is in pairing mode
- If no Bluetooth device is connected after 20 seconds the pairing mode will automatically turn off and the Blue LED will stop flashing
- Ensure your Bluetooth speaker is in pairing mode
- Wait for the Engage Pro Elite to find and connect
- If the speaker supports it, there will be an audio cue to confirm devices are connected
- Engage Pro Elite Blue LED will move from flashing to static
- After a few seconds your default character boot sound will be played
- Your Engage Pro Elite is now ready for use
✅ Once connected:
- The device will remember this speaker for future use
- On next boot, it will attempt to reconnect automatically
- Initial connection may take a few seconds
- If connection fails, power down the device and follow the connection steps again
(Testing has shown first connection attempts with some speakers can occasionally time out) - Audio playback will begin once the connection is fully established
⚠️ You may notice a short delay before the boot sound plays — this is normal.
On future power-ups:
- The device will automatically reconnect to the last paired speaker
(ensure your speaker is already powered on) - No button input is required
If it does not reconnect:
- Ensure the speaker is powered on
- Ensure the speaker is not connected to another device
- Restart both devices if needed
- Speaker not in pairing mode
- Speaker already connected to another device
- Speaker does not support A2DP
- Out of range
- Normal behaviour while Bluetooth connection initializes
- Check speaker volume
- Confirm correct mode (Bluetooth vs wired)
- Try restarting the device
If you need to connect to a different speaker:
Repeat the pairing steps:
- Hold Button 1 + Button 2
- Press Button 5
This will:
- Clear stored device
- Allow pairing with a new speaker
Test using an audio cable or wired headphones to confirm the device is working as expected.
